Stainless Steel vs PVC: Key Differences

Stainless Steel Above-Ground (AG Series)

  • Easy access — installed under sinks or at floor level for simple cleaning and maintenance
  • Retrofit-friendly — no excavation needed, ideal for existing kitchens
  • Food-grade material — corrosion-resistant stainless steel, long lifespan
  • Quick installation — typically completed in 2–4 hours
  • Lower maximum flow rates compared to underground models
  • Takes up visible kitchen space

PVC Underground (Type D/A/B/C)

  • Higher flow rates — handles up to 480 L/min (8 L/s) for heavy-volume kitchens
  • Hidden installation — buried below ground, no visible equipment in kitchen
  • DM-required for many large commercial operations
  • Higher capacity — up to 135 gallons for industrial-scale FOG capture
  • Requires excavation during construction or renovation
  • Cleaning requires pump-out equipment

Dubai Municipality Compliance Requirements

All commercial kitchens in the UAE must:

• Install a DM-approved grease trap sized per the official GTT (Grease Trap Tester) formula
• Maintain cleaning records and produce them during inspections
• Schedule regular cleaning — weekly for above-ground, monthly for underground
• Hold a valid compliance certificate for their installed trap
• Ensure FOG discharge does not exceed permitted limits (typically <100 mg/L)

Non-compliance penalties: Fines range from AED 10,000 to AED 50,000 per violation. Repeat offenders face trade license suspension. Sewer blockage liability can exceed AED 100,000 for major incidents. Getting the right size from the start is significantly cheaper than penalties.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use an above-ground trap instead of underground?

In most cases, yes — as long as the above-ground model meets the required flow rate for your kitchen. However, some municipality approvals for large commercial operations specifically require underground installation. We can confirm this during your free site assessment.

What if my kitchen needs more capacity than the AG XL?

For kitchens exceeding 143 L/min flow rate with above-ground installation, we can install multiple AG XL units in series. Alternatively, an underground Type B or Type C trap handles up to 480 L/min in a single unit.

Do all models come with a DM compliance certificate?

Yes. Every model we supply — both stainless steel and PVC — is Dubai Municipality approved and includes the required compliance certificate at no extra charge.

How do I know if my current trap is the right size?

Use our sizing calculator to check the recommended model for your setup. If your current trap is smaller than recommended, you are at risk of FOG overflows and failed inspections. We offer free on-site assessments to verify.

What is the price difference between stainless steel and PVC?

All models start from AED 999 including delivery and installation. The final price depends on your specific kitchen layout, plumbing requirements, and whether excavation is needed for underground models. Contact us for a detailed quote.
