Type B Grease Traps for Restaurants and Bars

Type B Grease Traps: The Standard for Restaurants and Bars

If you run a restaurant, bar, or cafe in the UAE, a Type B grease trap is most likely what you need. It is the mid-range workhorse — big enough to handle a full commercial kitchen, compact enough to fit in a back-of-house area without major civil works.

Type B traps sit above ground, usually on the kitchen floor or in a utility room near the drain connection. They are DM-approved across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah.

What Makes a Type B Different from Type A and Type C

  • Type A (AG series): Small under-sink units for single sinks. 1–5 litres per second flow rate. For coffee shops and juice bars.
  • Type B: Above-ground units for full kitchens. 5–25 litres per second flow rate. Capacities from 50 to 500 litres. For restaurants, bars, cloud kitchens.
  • Type C: In-ground units for large operations. 25+ litres per second. For hotels, malls, food courts. Requires excavation.

Type B hits the sweet spot for most F&B businesses — serious grease-handling capacity without the cost and disruption of burying a tank. Compare grease trap models to see how Type B stacks up.

Type B Specifications

  • Capacity range: 50L, 100L, 200L, 300L, 500L
  • Flow rate: 5–25 litres per second
  • Material: AISI 304 stainless steel (preferred) or epoxy-coated mild steel
  • Inlet/outlet: 50mm, 75mm, or 100mm depending on model
  • Baffles: 2–3 internal baffles for grease separation
  • Access: Removable lid for cleaning and inspection

Which Size Do You Need?

  • Small restaurant (30–50 seats): 100L Type B, biweekly cleaning
  • Mid-size restaurant (50–100 seats): 200L Type B, weekly cleaning
  • Large restaurant or bar (100+ seats): 300–500L Type B, weekly cleaning
  • Cloud kitchen with multiple brands: 200–300L Type B, weekly cleaning

Sizing depends on your menu too. A steakhouse with deep fryers needs more capacity than a sushi bar. We do a site survey and flow-rate calculation before recommending a size — visit our installation page for details.

Installation

Type B traps install in a few hours. No excavation, no concrete pours. We connect the trap to your kitchen drain line, seal the inlet and outlet, test the flow, and hand you a signed installation certificate. The trap needs to sit level and have enough clearance for the lid to open fully — our surveyor checks this before we order the unit.

Cleaning and Maintenance

A Type B trap in a busy restaurant fills up fast. Regular grease trap cleaning services are essential. In Dubai, most restaurants on weekly cleaning cycles produce 30–80 litres of FOG per pump-out. Skip a cleaning, and grease passes through the trap into your drain line — that means blockages, smells, and a failed DM inspection.

Our cleaning service includes full pump-out, interior scraping, baffle inspection, and a signed service report. We also offer bio-dosing to slow grease buildup between visits.

Pricing

  • Type B trap supply (100L stainless steel): AED 3,500–4,500
  • Type B trap supply (200L stainless steel): AED 5,000–7,000
  • Type B trap supply (500L stainless steel): AED 8,000–12,000
  • Installation: AED 1,500–3,000 depending on plumbing complexity
  • Cleaning per visit: AED 400–1,200 depending on trap size

Keep Your Lines Clear Too

Pair your trap maintenance with quarterly drain line jetting to keep the outlet pipe clean. Grease that passes through even a well-maintained trap still coats the pipe walls over time.
