What a Type C Grease Trap Does for Your Commercial Kitchen
A Type C grease trap is the largest category of grease interceptor used in the UAE. While most people associate them with underground civil installations, Type C traps deliver real practical benefits for any commercial kitchen that handles high volumes of fats, oils, and grease (FOG).
We supply, install, and maintain Type C grease traps across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah.
Benefit 1: Longer Intervals Between Cleanings
The biggest day-to-day advantage of a Type C trap is capacity. A 2,000-litre Type C holds 4 to 10 times more grease than a typical above-ground Type B. That means you go from cleaning twice a week to once a week — or even biweekly for moderate-volume kitchens. Fewer service visits means lower annual maintenance costs and less disruption to your kitchen schedule.
Benefit 2: Higher Flow Rate Handling
Type C traps handle 25 to 100+ litres per second. That matters during peak service when every sink, dishwasher, and floor drain is dumping water simultaneously. An undersized trap gets overwhelmed during rush hours — grease passes straight through and blocks your drain line. A Type C keeps separating FOG even when your kitchen is running flat out.
Benefit 3: No Kitchen Floor Space Lost
Because Type C traps are buried underground, they free up every square metre of your kitchen floor. In Dubai, where commercial rent runs AED 100–250 per square foot, the floor space a 500-litre above-ground trap occupies has real monetary value. An in-ground Type C moves the grease management system outside your kitchen entirely.
Benefit 4: Better Odour Control
Above-ground traps sit inside your kitchen. When they are due for cleaning, the smell is noticeable — to your staff and sometimes to your customers. Type C traps are sealed underground with gas-tight manhole covers. The odour stays contained. Pair the trap with a bio-dosing system and odour between pump-outs drops to almost nothing.
Benefit 5: Municipality Compliance Made Easier
Dubai Municipality and ADFSA inspectors know that Type C traps provide better separation than smaller units. For high-volume operations, specifying a Type C from the start often smooths the permitting process. Your cleaning records show consistent compliance because the trap is never at risk of overflow between service visits.
Benefit 6: Multi-Source Collection
A single Type C trap can collect waste from multiple kitchen outlets — main kitchen, prep kitchen, dishwash area, bar, and staff canteen. Instead of maintaining four or five separate small traps, you manage one system with one cleaning schedule. This is why hotels, malls, and food courts default to Type C.

- You have multiple food outlets feeding into one drainage system
- Your current Type B trap needs cleaning more than twice a week
- You are fitting out a new kitchen and have access to the ground for excavation
- Your landlord or developer requires an in-ground interceptor in the MEP design

Maintenance
Type C traps still need regular pump-outs — the interval just stretches further. We set up fixed schedules with service reports and photos for your compliance files. Add quarterly drain line jetting to keep the outlet pipe clear, and your system runs trouble-free for years.
