Underground Grease Trap Installation: Type C Guide

Type C Grease Traps for Underground Installations

Type C grease traps are the heavy-duty option for commercial operations that produce large volumes of fats, oils, and grease (FOG). These units are installed below ground — buried in service yards, car parks, or utility corridors — and handle flow rates that above-ground traps cannot match.

We supply and install Type C grease traps across all seven UAE emirates: Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah.

Where Type C Traps Are Required

  • Hotels with multiple kitchen outlets: Banquet, main dining, pool bar, staff canteen all feeding into one system
  • Shopping malls and food courts: 10–50+ F&B tenants draining into a shared grease interceptor
  • Large catering and commissary kitchens: Central production facilities doing 1,000+ meals per day
  • Industrial food processing plants: Meat, dairy, and bakery operations with high FOG output
  • New construction projects: Where the MEP consultant specifies an in-ground interceptor in the drainage design

If your operation produces more than 25 litres per second of waste flow, or your above-ground Type B trap fills up within days of cleaning, you need a Type C.

Type C Specifications

  • Capacity range: 500L, 1,000L, 2,000L, 3,000L, 5,000L+
  • Flow rate: 25–100+ litres per second
  • Material: GRP (fibreglass), precast concrete, or AISI 304 stainless steel
  • Inlet/outlet: 100mm, 150mm, or 200mm
  • Access: Ground-level manhole covers rated for pedestrian or vehicular traffic
  • Baffles: Multi-chamber design with 3–5 baffles for staged separation

Installation Process

Type C installation is a civil works job. Here is what is involved:

  • Site survey and ground assessment: We check soil conditions, water table level, and existing utilities
  • Excavation: Pit dug to the required depth, typically 2–4 metres
  • Concrete base pour: Reinforced slab to support the trap weight when full
  • Trap placement: Crane-lowered into position, levelled, and anchored
  • Pipe connections: Inlet and outlet tied into the kitchen drainage and municipal sewer
  • Backfill and surface restoration: Compacted fill, manhole frame set, surface finish to match surrounding area
  • Testing: Water-fill test, flow test, leak check

The whole process takes 3–7 days depending on trap size and site conditions. We coordinate with your contractor or developer if the work is part of a fit-out.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Type C traps need regular pump-outs by a vacuum tanker. Cleaning frequency depends on the volume of FOG your kitchen produces:

  • 1,000L trap, hotel kitchen: Weekly pump-out
  • 2,000L trap, food court: Weekly or biweekly
  • 5,000L trap, commissary: Biweekly to monthly

We offer scheduled cleaning contracts with fixed pricing. Every visit includes a full pump-out, chamber inspection, and signed service report for your compliance records.

For large in-ground traps, a bio-dosing system is especially valuable — it keeps grease levels down between pump-outs and reduces odour in the service area above the trap.

Pricing

  • Type C trap supply (1,000L GRP): AED 8,000–12,000
  • Type C trap supply (2,000L GRP): AED 12,000–18,000
  • Type C trap supply (5,000L concrete): AED 18,000–25,000+
  • Civil works and installation: AED 5,000–15,000 depending on site complexity
  • Cleaning per visit (1,000–2,000L): AED 1,500–3,000

Type C vs. Type B: When to Upgrade

If your Type B trap needs cleaning more than twice a week, or you are adding kitchen capacity, it is time to consider a Type C. The upfront cost is higher, but you save on cleaning frequency and avoid the risk of overflow between visits. For new builds, specifying a Type C from the start is always cheaper than retrofitting later.

Drain Line Service

In-ground traps have long outlet runs to the sewer main. We recommend quarterly jetting of these lines to prevent blockages that are expensive to excavate and repair.
